wize guys stromboli

today at work we ordered wize guys. nick got the stromboli and could only eat two slices before he had to stop.

this is what nick had to say about it.

"its cheesy, meaty, greasy...its the shit!" - nick mayberry.

this boy weighed 4 pounds on our scale. all of this for 9 bucks! i love wize guys!!

i ate four slices of their pie called the red margheritta and it was fantastic. we both feel like crap and ate too much. although its not pizza, our manager, evetta, made a molten lava chocolate cupcake? i dont know what it was but it was oozing out chocolate and i want more....someone in this library is snoring really loud. go downtown and eat at wize guys!

sams italian restaurant

i have a friend named jesse. i used to hate this kid and found him extremely annoying, but, then i joined a band with him and started to skateboard with him alot and he became one of my good friends. now he lives in orlando and i haven't seen him in about a year. i miss that kid. this is jesse's Halloween costume, and i am jealous. willie nelson wig and peter criss cat whiskers!

anyway, sams italian is in the middle of nowhere in rankin. this place is badass. the parking lot literally has 5 parking spaces and to even enter the restaurant was a difficult task. i felt like i was in a maize since the place had and endless amount of doors. but once i entered i walked into a place that looked like a cabin that i would camp in up north. lots of wood, ugly brown leather seats and terrible paintings on the wall. really dark and cozy. great place to wind down and eat pizza the way it should be, sitting at a table with good company.

the pizza, SO GOOD. this boy was probably the cheesiest pizza i have ever had. the crust was super crispy and thin and bubbles were all over the pizza. you gotta love the bubbles! the sauce was really sweet and they didn't skimp on any toppings. however, the topping choices are pretty slim and that was kinda bummer but that has to be expected at a place like this so its no big deal.

they also have these bread stick like creations they call samarinos. its basically like a pizza roll but without any filling. they are slightly buttered and with a hint of garlic, perfect! they also serve them in a big basket and its piled high so you get your moneys worth.

monday-wednesday they have a dollar beer special and also they have half off appetizers if you buy an appetizer.

i linked this place before, but here it is again. its on grand blanc road between torrey and jennings. i suggest you check it out!

sgt pepperonis

ugh, in a few days i turn 24 and i feel about as old as the dirt we all walk on. for the past ten years i have been going to shows and watching bands play on the regular and this past weekend i finally saw one of my favorite bands, the get up kids!

ugh, my cat needs to stay off my desk...he makes these updates take way longer than they should.

anyway, when i first heard about the get up kids show i had a wayne and garth moment. sorta like when they do the extreme close up, click the link if you dont know what i mean. but yeah, needless to say i was pretty excited.
alright, enough about the get up kids. so, sargent pepperonis is located right next to the garden bowl, downstairs from the magic stick, right nextdoor to the majestic cafe and the majestic theatre. so basically anytime a touring band comes through detroit they usually play at either the stick or the majestic and getting back to me getting old i am usually pretty partied out by the time the show is over with and dread the hour drive back to flint. this is where sgt pepperonis come in.

before i leave, i have made it a point to always grab a slice for the road. these slices are big and cheap and it hits the spot. i wasnt super impressed with my slice the other night but you know, everyone has an off day so ill let it slide. the dough is real good and soft, the crust is big and flakey, the cheese is piled high, and the sauce has a nice kick to it. add some crushed red pepper and some tobasco and you got yourself a tasty treat!

thanks to lance for taking this picture, it was good seeing you dude! and his girlfriend kate! good people.

here is my cat annoying me, but i love him. hi kitty!

here is a link to sargent pepperonis. if you are ever in downtown detroit and want to bowl a few games, check out some bands, or just hang out at the bar then you gotta stop in and check it out.

passport pizza

so today me and phil continued our quest for over sized pizza by going to passport pizza and getting there big 24incher called the big ben. for those of you who dont know, passport is located at the old papa johns location on the corner of miller and ballanger highway.

unlike the benitos big ben, passports version had thin dough was lightly sauced and was very cheesy. it was extremely greasy! but it was good!! this is a picture of phils fingers after eating a slice to show how greasy the crust was. but, to be honest, the grease was more so the butter we got added to the crust and not the pizza itself.

this place has a ton of toppings to chose from and also has a few gluten free options too! its definitely worth checking out. the prices are fair and if you order a second pizza its at a discounted price, so thats cool.

the only complaint i have of the place is it took a good 35 minutes for our pizza to be made and that was after about 15 minutes of the guy taking my order trying to haggle me to buy a drink or an order of bread sticks. come on man, i dont want that shit, just give me my za!

you can follow passport on facebook and twitter. and view their menu here.

wize guys

first off, everyone say hello to my mom!

my mom and my dad picked me up downtown today and we got a few slices at wize guys. they both got the good fellas and a salad and i got a slice of cheese. when word first got out about a pizza place opening downtown me, and all my buddies, we are pretty excited. it took what seemed forever for the place to open up but when it did, OOOOWEEEEE, let me tell you they did not disappoint. the prices are right and the slices are big. ordering a whole pie is my preference since its way fresher than the slices, which seem to sit for a while so you never know how good it will be.

the only complaint i have about going in there and getting a slice is that sometimes its nice and fresh and other times they are a bit old. i wish they would reheat the old slices like they do at other pizza by the slice places (NYPD in ann arbor, bells in lansing) oh, and the hours. they close at ten! they need to be open later. but, they do hook it up at the end of the night. my roommate, tom, sometimes gets 3 or 4 slices for the price of 1!!

but anyway, they do this thing with the crust thats badass. they roll it up like a pretzel and all the garlic and butter they put on the crust actually stays in the crust. check out the picture to see what im talking about.

for some reason, my mom thinks this blog is cool. so im having her explain what she likes about wize guys. and heres what she says...

"i like the atomosphere, the staff was very friendly, and it was clean. my pizza was delicious and i liked how i can get just one slice. i want to go back and get a big one, you know, whatever, however you would say that...dont say that!!!. uhmm, hold on let me see. dont type it while im trying to think! ha. well, ha, dad really liked the sausage! haha. the flavor of the crust was just, so good, and then to dip it in my ranch dressing just made it like a breadstick for a special treat at the end, i sure did not need those calories."

thats word for word what my mom said about the place. shes a weird old lady but its cool. she also says i swear too much. fuck it.

check out the menu here

benitos!

when i was 14 i worked at a greasy spoon in fenton and during my time there, which turned out to be 7 years(what a waste!) i worked with a tall fat kid with thick coke bottle glasses and a big afro. at first i was thinking "who the fuck is this kid and where did he come from?" and i was just more so intrigued at his size, appearance, and personality that i got to know him. we became good friends and still are ten years later.

anyway, he likes sports and i like sports. in the summer of 06 he lived down the street from me in flint and we would play basketball and watch the pistons nightly. alot of the time tyler would join us since he was just a few houses down at that point in time. so when the pistons entered the playoffs we would always get a big ben half mushroom half pineapple. SO GOOD!

the big ben is a 24inch za. due to its size its best if you let it cool down for a few minutes before digging into it. but once that cheese starts to harden up you are good to go. the cheese is thick, toppings are just right, sauce is sweet, dough is soft and the crust is chewy. what more could you ask for? oh, whats that? Parmesan and garlic crust? yeah, they do that too!

i almost forgot to mention that we once had a big ben eating contest!! we had two teams of 6 people and the team to finish 3 bens first wins. needless to say everyone that participated felt like complete shit for it was one of the hottest days of the summer and we all ate way too much pizza. im pretty sure for week following that day everytime i would sweat i would smell like pizza grease. ugh, the memories. does anyone have pictures of that still? that was a great day.

anyway, here are a few more pictures. one showing off the size of the ben. the other one is to prove that phil is no pizza slacker for he has pizza forever tattooed on his leg.

bear bistro's big ass slice

as promised i said i would make a post about the slices you can get over here at the bear bistro.

well, this is mayberry and his big ass slice of whatever the fuck he got on it pizza. these boys are big, greasy, and just flat out delicious. the only downside of getting a slice is it leaves you hungry for more and also hits you hard 20-30 minutes after eating it and it makes you feel like crap.

but whatever. i dont mind eating good pizza and feeling like crap, its a good trade off in my book!

bear bistro

Bear Bistro
Curtis-Mott Building @ Mott Community College
Monday-Friday 7:30am-8:30pm Saturdays 7:30am-1:30pm
Black Olive and Mushroom Stromboli
$4.23!!!

So, I work at the Mott College Bookstore and we never had anything good to eat on campus up until the Bear Bistro opened up last winter. Before that we would have to wait until the Little Debbie guy came and gave us expired fudge rounds or donuts, which by no means is a bad thing! i love little debbie! but it just doesnt hit the spot like pizza does.

The pizza at the bistro is by far some of the best stuff i have EVER had! the owners of the bistro are the same people who own Sams Italian Restaurant out in Swartz Creek. anyway, this is the first time i got the stromboli and it was fantastic. i was unaware of the stromboli up until this semester when dan was working with us and he would get it on the regular. i for one was always a fan of just getting a slice but was unable to today since they didnt have any ready when i went over there so i had them make me this. it only took about ten minutes which is good when the work day is dragging on and on. but let me tell you this, by the picture it may look burnt but the dough was super soft, the cheese was packed in there and the toppings wernt over the top. i sprinkled some red pepper flakes on there and topped it off with cholula(we didnt have any franks or tobasco in the break room, bummer!!) and dipped it in the pizza sauce they use which is very sweet in flavor and extreemly good. i ate this about 4 hours ago and am still stuffed like a turkey from it, and thats what i like. cheap food that will hold me over for the rest of the night.

i will have to make another post for the bistro soon for the slices of pizza they have which are gigantic and only run $2!

as this being my first post i wanted it to be the bistro for it is a hidden treasure to most but its deffinetaly worth checking out if you have the chance to. i also want to say that i am no pizza expert and i suck at writing. i will most likely explain things on here as i would in person, so there will be alot of "fucks" "god damns" and "shits" spread throughout my posts.

keep checking back for more updates! and suggest me places to eat.
