pomodoro fresh italian-highland michigan

i have nothing but great things to say about pomodoros. not only is it family owned and operated but the food is great and you can tell they really love what they are doing. good people making good food. what more can you ask for?

pomodoros is ran by a dude named hank who was an old manager of the french laundry in fenton who then opened up this place not too long ago down in highland. yeah, sounds like a drive but its just past duck lake road on m-59 so from fenton it was only about a 20 minute drive.

anyway, they offer a variety of pizza, salad, grinders, pastas and they also have monthly specials and daily specials.  we went with the 6inch veggie grinder and a medium Mediterranean pizza.

the veggie grinder was nothing short of amazing. served on oven fresh focaccia style bread bread its loaded with portabella mushrooms, peppers, celery, carrots, onions and tomatoes that are all helDSC00254d together with provolone and swiss cheese. there was no bells and whistles about this grinder. it was simply fantastic. and the best part about it was that it was loaded with veggies and was put together so well that when you bite into it not a single item fell out of the bread. it was also served with their own house made pickle and some pickled italian vegetables.

we then dove into the pizza. after the first bite all i could say was WHOA. after the second bite all i could sputter out was WOW. this pizza is whats up. i have had pesto on pizza before but it was always very oily and ruined the whole pizza. pomodoros makes their own pesto and it was the best tasting pesto i have ever had. the pizza is loaded up with feta cheese, kalamata olives, red onion, roasted red peppers, artichoke hearts and mozzarella cheeses all on top of soft flakey dough. it was great. i just warmed up my leftovers for dinner and it still tasted great.

check out their website for specials and coupons!

ruggeros

DSC00244 is there anything better than a snowday? nope. last week during our snowday we went to ruggeros on corunna road for some pizza and that made our snowday even better!

ruggeros pizza is good, but not great. its thin crust and doesnt stack up to luigis or sicilys but thats alright because that makes those places that much better.

DSC00241 the breadsticks are delicious! cut in squares and smothered in butter and herbs. you cant beat it. we also got the one of the appetizer plates that consisted of fried mushrooms, cauliflower, and zucchini which was also fantastic.

DSC00243 i dont really have much to say about the place as it didnt leave a lasting impression on me. i do like everything we ordered but feel like for the price we could have gotten better pizza elsewhere.

Romano's macaroni grill

DSC00232 man it has been a long time since i last updated this. sorry to any of you who read this. i have been lazy.

the last post i made was for Giordano's when we went to Chicago. this pizza is from the same weekend. we got to the airport early for our flight home and asked a lady where a good place to eat at the airport was and she recommended the macaroni grill. i was thinking it was going to be like a macaroni and cheese place but it was actually a very nice Italian restaurant.

when we were seated the server asked what we wanted to drink and while doing this she cracked some salt and pepper onto a small dish and grabbed the olive oil off the table and poured it onto the dish and then brought out a big loaf of bread with our drinks. awesome! that's probably my favorite part about Italian places is the bread that you begin with. so good.

i ordered the margherita pizza which has fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and olive oil. and let me tell you, it was delicious! very light and crispy and made fresh to order. and the best part is the price. only 8 bucks!! score!DSC00234 the pizza only comes in one size, which is 12inches. but that was plenty big enough for me.

we then ended the night with some tiramisu. this was the first time i have ever tried it but man, was it good. i wish i would have ordered my own because i would have woofed that whole boy down.

there are a few locations in Michigan, mainly down in the Detroit area, so if you are ever down that way and want some great Italian at a greater price go check out Romano's macaroni grill.
